Tabbit Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Tabbit: the website at usetabbit.app and the Tabbit iOS and Android apps. By using Tabbit you agree to these terms. How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy.
What Tabbit is
Tabbit helps you split a bill: scan a receipt, assign items to people, share the result, and open a payment link in a payment app. Tabbit computes who owes what and keeps a record of your tabs and groups. It is a bookkeeping and sharing tool, not a bank, wallet, or payment service.
Your account
Tabbit creates an account for you automatically using a credential stored on your device; there is no email or password. You are responsible for the device that holds that credential: anyone with access to your device (or a share link you send) can see the tabs it can see. If you clear the app's storage without another way back to the account, the account can become unreachable. If that happens, or if you want the account deleted, contact us at the address below.
Your content
The receipts you scan, the photos, PDFs, and voice clips you upload, and the names, tabs, and groups you create are yours. So that Tabbit can work, you give us permission to store, process, and display that content: to run it through our receipt-reading providers, keep it in our database and file storage, and show it to the people you share it with. We claim no other rights to it. You are responsible for what you upload and for having the right to share it, including other people's names and details you add to a tab.
Payments happen outside Tabbit
- Tabbit is not a payment processor or money transmitter. It never holds, sends, or receives money.
- Pay links open third-party services (such as Venmo or PayPal) with a prefilled amount and note. Your relationship with those services is governed by their own terms, and Tabbit is not responsible for their availability, fees, errors, or disputes.
- "Paid" markers in Tabbit are self-reported signals from you and the people you split with. They are records of what people claim, not confirmation that money moved.
- Settling up is between you and the people you split with. Tabbit is not a party to those debts and cannot resolve disputes about them.
Scanned amounts can be wrong
Receipt scanning and voice-fill use AI to read images and audio. They are usually right and sometimes wrong: items can be missed, misread, or mispriced, and currency conversions in groups use snapshotted exchange rates that will not match your bank's rate exactly. Review every tab before you rely on it or send anyone a payment link. Tabbit is not responsible for money paid or requested based on a misread receipt.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Tabbit to harass, defraud, or collect money you are not owed;
- upload content that is illegal or that you have no right to share;
- probe, overload, disrupt, or reverse engineer the service, or access other users' data without their consent (for example by guessing share links);
- resell or white-label the service without our permission.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or abuse the service.
The service can change
Tabbit is provided free of charge, and we are actively developing it. Features may change, be added, or be removed, and we may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service. If we ever discontinue it, we will make reasonable efforts to give notice so you can export or record what you need.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Tabbit is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tabbit and its creators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or amounts paid or unpaid between users, arising from your use of the service. To the extent liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us to use Tabbit in the past twelve months, which for a free service is zero.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be surfaced inside the app. Continuing to use Tabbit after a change means you accept the updated terms.
